I scoured my friends' classrooms to find a good wall map and we put it on the floor.  My social studies teaching friends usually had a "relatively" new map we could use.  You have to watch out for the age of your map so that the rapidly changing world doesn't catch you.  We had that happen to us our first year!  Your public library might have a collection of National Geographic maps you could check out and use or you could go to www.natgeo.com and take a look at their resources.  Hope that helps!
